Anna Dawson has retained the Irish Intervarsity Women’s Golf Championship after an impressive comeback at Carne Golf Links in County Mayo.

The Maynooth University golfer recovered from an opening round of nine-over-par 81 to finish fifth overall on seven-over-par, securing the women’s title for a second consecutive year.

Dawson responded to her difficult start with a superb second-round 66 before carding a 76 in the final round to complete her championship victory.

Maynooth also retained the team championship, with Conor Stapleton, Lorenzo Fior and James Walsh combining to finish 12-over-par.

The men’s title went to TUS Midwest’s Éanna Mulhare, who secured his first Irish Intervarsity Championship in dramatic fashion.

The 20-year-old from Birr held a four-shot overnight lead after a three-under-par 69 in the second round, but challenging conditions and a difficult finish saw him caught by Maynooth’s Sean Cooper.

Mulhare made a crucial par on the 18th to force a playoff before producing the decisive moment on the second extra hole, holing an eagle putt to claim the title.

The championship was played at Carne Golf Links in testing conditions, with strong winds providing a significant challenge for competitors throughout the week.
