A tightly fought contest awaits under the early evening sky at Azzuri Walsh Park this evening as Abbeyside-Ballinacourty take on De La Salle in Round 5 of Group A in the JJ Kavanagh & Sons Waterford Senior Hurling Championship.

Just a point separates the teams behind leaders Ballygunner A as both teams jockey for position heading towards the business end of the championship.

Abbeyside-Ballinacourty sit on six points with De La Salle just a point further behind on five. Both teams will be hoping to put some distance between themselves and Passage who sit on four points following Friday night’s win over Ferrybank and looking to secure a spot in the upper half of the group standings with every point being crucial for knockout qualification and seeding.

Supporters and pundits alike are struggling to split the two sides given how evenly matched both squads are on paper.

Abbeyside will be looking to build on their excellent campaign so far and looking to the likes of Seanie Callaghan who was immense in their crucial victory over Passage finishing with 6 points from play.

De La Salle meanwhile will be hoping to use their greater experience to ignite their campaign and will be expecting big games from the likes of Jack Twomey at corner forward and Eddie Barrett in the engine room of midfield.

Either way this has the potential to be an absolute classic encounter and much like the deaf dog – it’s very hard to call!
