This morning (Friday) on 'Deise Today', Damien spoke to *Sophie (not her real name). Earlier this week, *Sophie and another woman - who were both sexually abused by family members when they were children - called for the sentences of the two men involved to be appealed on the grounds that they were too lenient. David Hamilton (33) of Woodtown West, Athboy, Co Meath, pleaded guilty to rape, oral rape and sexual assault of the older girl and sexual assault of the younger girl in Co Meath on dates between 2004 and 2008. He was given a seven-and-a-half year sentence, with the last 12 months suspended to "incentivise rehabilitation". One of the girls was also raped by Hamilton's older brother, Jonathan, on one occasion. He was sentenced to three years with the final six months suspended. *Sophie, who is the youngest of the two victims, said this week that the sentences were "a slap in the face" and she hopes the DPP will appeal the decision.
