Work is underway to replace old and damaged water mains in Portlaw as part of a project aimed at improving the reliability of the local water supply.

Uisce Éireann says around 900 metres of new watermain will be installed between Darrigal and Poldrew Bridge.

The upgrade is intended to reduce leakage and strengthen the local network.

Dave Murphy of Uisce Éireann said the works would help provide a more reliable supply for people in Portlaw and the surrounding area.

‘Every pipe we replace is guided by one clear goal: providing a water supply people can count on,’ he said.

‘By focusing on delivering a more reliable supply, we’re helping to build a stronger, more resilient water service for the people of Portlaw.’

The project is being carried out by Shareridge on behalf of Uisce Éireann.

Works began earlier this month and are expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Uisce Éireann says national leakage has fallen from 49% in 2014 to 36% today.
