The woman who tragically died in a jacuzzi in Spain alongside her husband has been pictured.

Thomasina Tobin, née McArdle, and her husband Patrick Tobin tragically lost their lives in a jacuzzi while on holiday in a town outside of Valencia.

The bodies of Ms McArdle, from Monaghan, and her husband, who was originally from New Zealand, were discovered by their teenage children.

Ms McArdle’s family are highly respected in Castleblayney, Co Monaghan, and she had been living in London for the past 20 years.

Her father, Tommy McArdle, is a well-respected playwright, actor, and producer. He and his brother John had also represented Monaghan at inter-county football.

The tragedy occurred in the town of Cullera, about 40 kilometres south of Valencia. While the couple were found with puncture wounds, which led to a homicide squad being brought in for the investigation, foul play has been ruled out.

It is believed that the couple died in a tragic accident, rather than being victims of a crime.

The prevailing theory, according to local media, is that one of the two deceased fell or slipped, and the other suffered the same fate while attempting to rescue them. This would explain the bloodstains and injuries found on the bodies.

Postmortems were carried out on Wednesday, with one possibility being that the hot tub itself may have malfunctioned.

Relatives of Ms McArdle arrived in Spain late on Wednesday to comfort the couple’s two teenage boys who are believed to be traumatised after discovering the bodies.

It was initially reported that the couple were both Irish and were aged 50 and 45. This has since been clarified by the Valencia Civil Guard: Ms McArdle was 50, while Mr Tobin was 48 and from New Zealand.

The New Zealand Department of Foreign Affairs says it is aware of Mr Tobin’s death.
