A woman, aged in her 50s, has died after her car collided with a lorry in Co.Cork.

The accident happened at around 3pm on Sunday, July 12.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene on the R568 at Manch East, Ballineen, Co Cork.

The female driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

A statement from An Garda Síochána confirmed her body was removed to Cork University Hospital. A post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

The driver of the lorry was a male also aged in his 50s. He was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

On Sunday evening, the road remained closed with local diversions in place.

Gardaí are now appealing for witnesses to the tragedy to come forward.

‘Those who were travelling in the area during this time and who may have camera footage, including dash cam or mobile phone recordings, are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí,’ they urged.

‘Anyone with information is asked to contact Bandon Garda Station on 023 885 2200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.’
