WLR has been presented with a certificate of thanks from the Council of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution in recognition of the station’s dedicated and long-standing support of the RNLI.

The certificate acknowledges WLR’s role in strengthening water safety awareness and supporting local drowning prevention efforts by broadcasting important safety messages to its 73,000 weekly listeners.

As a coastal radio station, the work of the RNLI is particularly close to WLR.

The certificate was signed by RNLI Chief Executive Peter Sparkes and records the organisation’s sincere thanks to WLR for its support.

WLR CEO Michael Byrne said the recognition reflects the station’s strong public-service ethos.

‘Being a coastal station, we understand just how important the RNLI is to communities right across Waterford and the surrounding area. The volunteers in Helvick, Tramore and Dunmore East are our listeners and our neighbours. They are ordinary people doing extraordinary work, often in the most difficult conditions.

‘Public service is at the heart of what we do at WLR. When it comes to water safety and supporting organisations like the RNLI, we will always go the extra mile to make sure those vital messages reach as many people as possible. If something we broadcast helps prevent an accident or saves a life, then that is radio doing exactly what it should do.

‘We’re genuinely proud to receive this certificate, and we see it as recognition for the entire WLR team and the relationship we have built with the RNLI over many years.’

WLR regularly supports the RNLI by sharing water safety advice, information about rescue operations and the work of lifeboat crews and volunteers throughout the region.

The RNLI said WLR’s valued contribution continues to support its work saving lives at sea.
