A man who died in a two-vehicle collision has been named by investigating police.

The tragedy unfolded early on Tuesday morning in Lisburn, and involved a car and a van.

The PSNI [Police Service of Northern Ireland] are currently appealing for witnesses to the fatal accident on Belfast Road in Lisburn to come forward.

A statement from the force confirmed the death of the man who had been driving the car.

Detective Inspector Stewart from the Collision Investigation Unit said they received reports of a collision at around 5.45am on Tuesday, September 1.

‘Officers attended, alongside colleagues from other emergency services. Sadly, the driver of the Mini, 50-year-old James Bingham, was pronounced deceased at the scene,’ the Detective confirmed.

‘The driver of the van, a man aged in his 40s, required medical treatment for injuries not believed to be life-threatening at present.’

The Belfast Road was closed in both directions for a period of time on Tuesday, but has since fully reopened to road users.

Detective Inspector Stewart issued an appeal for anyone with information to come forward.
