A Waterford native has been appointed as the new Group Chief Executive of An Post.

Fergal Leamy will take up the role in mid-August on a seven-year term, succeeding David McRedmond, who is stepping down after a decade leading the company.

Mr. Leamy brings extensive leadership experience to the position, having previously served as Chief Executive of Coillte and Glen Dimplex. He has also led Consolidated Pastoral Company, headed Greencore’s US business and served as Chair of UK food company Little Dish.

An Post said Mr. Leamy was appointed following an extensive competitive recruitment process overseen by the company’s board.

Welcoming the appointment, An Post Chairman Kieran Mulvey said Mr. Leamy’s national and international experience would help guide the organisation through the challenges and opportunities ahead.

Mr. Leamy said he was honoured to take on the role, describing An Post as a unique organisation with a trusted brand and strong foundations for future growth.

He said the transformation achieved by the company over the past decade had created a platform for continued innovation as technology continues to reshape how people live, work and do business.

Mr. Leamy will officially begin his new role in mid-August.
