Waterford will welcome senior Irish and Danish diplomatic representatives next week as part of Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The county has been paired with Denmark for the duration of the Presidency, with Chargé d’Affaires of Denmark to Ireland Ole Egberg Mikkelsen and Ireland’s Ambassador to Denmark Kyle O’Sullivan visiting on September 22nd and 23rd.

The two-day programme will include visits to the North Quays, a Safe Routes to School project, Mount Congreve, Garter Lane Arts Centre and SETU.

Climate action and renewable energy will also feature, with representatives from Ireland and Denmark taking part in discussions at the Southern Regional Assembly.

Mayor of Waterford City and County Cllr. Liam Brazil said the visit would showcase Waterford’s economic development, cultural heritage and climate work, while also helping to strengthen links with Denmark.

Mr. Mikkelsen said Waterford and Denmark share historic links dating back to the Vikings, as well as modern connections in areas including green energy and agriculture.
