Met Éireann have urged people to ‘take simple precautions’ as the country braces for another spell of ‘very warm [and] hot weather.’

Following on from a record-breaking June, July temperatures are also expected to break forecasting records.

It will be a difficult few nights as weather expert Alan O’Reilly of Carlow Weather warned of occasions where temperatures won’t drop below 19C.

On Monday, Met Éireann issued a weather advisory, effective from Wednesday (July 8) through to next Tuesday (July 14).

The national forecaster said: ‘A prolonged spell of very warm or hot weather will occur this week lasting into next week with heat wave conditions expected.’

For the most part, Met Éireann say temperatures will exceed 25C with some areas hitting 30C by Friday.

‘Warm and humid nights will occur with minima of 15 degrees or higher,’ they said. ‘Possible tropical nights may occur in places this weekend.

‘There is also the chance of some thunderstorms later this week.’

Among the potential impacts of the period of hot weather are water safety issues due to increased use; uncomfortable sleeping conditions and potential disruption to public transport.

Met Éireann also warn of animal welfare issues and heat stress and dehydration — particularly for vulnerable and elderly people.

Tuesday will see temperatures of up to 27 degrees in some places, with a cloudy morning to start and drizzle in the north and west.

Wednesday will remain quite cloudy with fog and isolated drizzle in the northwest. Temperatures are expected to hit 28 degrees, potentially higher in some parts.

Met Éireann said the weather will see a ‘good deal of dry weather’ heading towards the end of the week and weekend with sunshine gradually becoming more widespread.
