Work is progressing on repairs and conservation works at Waterford’s Clock Tower.

The issue was raised at Waterford City and County Council September’s Metropolitan District meeting by Cllr. Adam Wyse, who sought an update on when the Clock Tower would be repaired and cleaned following the completion of works on the South Quays.

Responding at the meeting, Head of Economic Development Gareth Evans confirmed that electricity has now been connected to the Clock Tower, while a new door and internal scaffolding have also been installed.

He said the Council is now in contact with a clockmaker, who will assess the mechanics of the clock before the required repairs are carried out.

The Council is also progressing procurement documents for conservation works to the structure, including repointing of the exterior.

No firm date was provided for when the clock itself will return to operation.
