Two Waterford organisations have been shortlisted for the 2026 National Age Friendly Recognition and Achievement Awards.

Vintage Vibes Coastal Community Hub and Dungarvan Dementia Inclusive Community are among 36 projects from across the country recognised for making a positive difference to the lives of older people.

The National Age Friendly Recognition and Achievement Awards, now in their tenth year, celebrate organisations, community groups, businesses and local authorities that help make Ireland a better place to grow older.

The two Waterford projects were recognised for creating more inclusive communities where older people can remain connected, valued and supported.

Chief Officer of Age Friendly Ireland, Catherine McGuigan, said this year’s finalists demonstrate how communities across Ireland are developing practical solutions that improve everyday life for older people.

‘Ireland is on a journey of designing our communities, services and infrastructure to meet the challenges and opportunities associated with our ageing population,’ she said.

‘These Awards celebrate excellent projects, but they also set a standard. They are a showcase of practical solutions for government departments, public bodies, businesses and community organisations, demonstrating what Age Friendly leadership looks like.’

The shortlisted projects will now go to an independent judging panel before the winners are announced at the National Age Friendly Recognition and Achievement Awards in Limerick on October 8.

The awards recognise excellence across ten categories, including transport, housing, communications, community innovation and active and healthy ageing.
