A routine M50 patrol led to two people being brought before the courts after Gardaí uncovered a string of offences involving two separate cars.

Gardaí shared the unusual incident on social media, joking that a driver’s attempt to find a lift home ended with them both travelling in a Garda car instead.

According to the post, M50 patrol Gardaí stopped a BMW and discovered that the vehicle had no insurance or tax.

While officers waited for the car to be towed away, a friend of the driver arrived at the scene in an Audi to collect him.

However, the attempted rescue quickly took another turn when Gardaí discovered that the second driver was actively disqualified from driving and also had an active bench warrant.

‘When your lift home ends up in the Garda car…,’ the post began.

’M50 patrol stopped a BMW with no insurance/tax. While waiting for the tow, his friend arrived in an Audi to rescue him -only for Gardaí to find he had an active disqualification and bench warrant!’

The Gardaí summed up the unusual turn of events with the line: ‘Two-for-one to court.’

Social media users were clearly tickled by the turn of events, with many taking to the comments to joke about the unlikely situation.

‘BMW & Audi for sale. Going cheap,’ one user joked.

‘Not a brain cell between them. Good job Gardai,’ another penned.

‘And who picked him up? Is it like a Russian doll of illegal road users,’ a third shared.
