The young mother who sustained serious injuries in a crash following a Westlife gig has sadly died in hospital.

Danielle O’Keane, who hails from Co Armagh, attended the group’s performance at the 3Arena in Dublin and, following the gig, got a motorised rickshaw into the city centre to meet her husband.

Tragically, the rickshaw flipped and tossed the 37-year-old mum-of-two into the path of oncoming traffic, where she was hit on the head, sustaining horrific injuries.

Danielle was in ICU at the Mater University Hospital, but doctors told the family that she has sustained a ‘catastrophic’ brain injury, which is life-ending.

Her brother-in-law Derek confirmed that doctors had told them that there is ‘nothing’ that they can do and Danielle’s ventilator will be switched off.

‘It’s just a process of waiting for them to officially turn off the machine. It’s heartbreaking,’ he told The Sun.

He described Danielle, whose young sons are aged just five and two, as ‘the sweetest girl you’d ever meet.’

The news outlet also quoted a band source who revealed that Westlife had privately reached out to Danielle’s family in the wake of the tragedy.

Now, it has tragically been confirmed that Danielle has passed away in a notice posted by Charles Digney and Sons Funeral Directors.

It read: ‘Much loved wife of Dave and dear mother of Caolán and Cillian. Beloved daughter of Michael and Pauline, and dear sister of Barry and her twin Sean. Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on her soul.

‘Deeply regretted by her sorrowing husband, children, parents, brothers, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, mother-in-law Dolores, nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, family circle and friends.’

Paying tribute to Danielle, one person said: ‘The most beautiful girl and devoted mum. I am just so sorry to hear this awful news. I will miss Danielle’s warm smile and chat at the school gates 💔 Sending love, prayers and strength to Danielle’s husband, children and entire family at this terrible time.’

‘Truly tragic. Such a beautiful girl… gone too soon. My thoughts are with Danielle’s husband, little boys, her mum Pauline and the entire family circle. May you all find the strength to get through this unbelievably difficult time. Sending my love to you all,’ added someone else.

Danielle’s devastated sister-in-law, Ashling O’Keane, recounted the horrific incident as a GoFundMe started by the family to support her husband and sons topped £100K.

‘Danielle doesn’t go out, so this was a rare occasion for her to kind of go out and let her hair down,’ she told Newstalk’s Lunchtime Live with Andrea Gilligan.

‘They thought it’d be a couple of minutes max; they’d be on it, and unfortunately that wasn’t meant to be. Danielle wasn’t supposed to get to her final destination.’

She explained how the back wheel of the rickshaw clipped the divider for the cycle lane and toppled the rickshaw, thrusting Danielle into the path of a car.

Another passenger received a broken nose and broken teeth as well as a laceration to their head, but it was Danielle who received the worst of the injuries. After being resuscitated at the scene, she went into cardiac arrest on the way to hospital and also suffered mini-strokes.

On Danielle’s GoFundMe page, her family has revealed that her husband Joe was due to start a new job but has postponed his start date to be with their boys.

They’re asking the public to give as generously as they can to help support them. Currently, the GoFundMe stands at £111,908. Donate here.
