Three Irish people have died, and another has been seriously injured following a road crash in Spain.

Local media reported that the crash occurred in the popular tourist town of Malaga in the south of the country in the early hours of the morning.

Initial reports suggest two women and a man were declared dead at the scene.

A woman, aged 64, and a man, aged 35, were also injured in the crash, and the man was taken to hospital in Malaga.

In a statement, the Department of Foreign Affairs said it is aware of the incident and is providing consular assistance to the families involved.
