A Mayo man who made the 18,000km trip back from Australia was amongst fans celebrating their All-Ireland win at Croke Park on Sunday.

Andy Moran’s side took on defending champions Kerry on Sunday at the GAA HQ, with the Munster side looking to get their 40th title.

The Sam Maguire was claimed by the Mayo men, with the Connacht county winning 1-20 to 1-17.

It comes following a 75-year wait for the men in green and red, with tears flowing in Croke Park following the historic All-Ireland victory.

Amongst those who got one of the golden tickets to experience the day at Croker was Mayo man David, who made the surprise trip back to Ireland with his girlfriend Eva.

Eva shared a clip of their 38-hour trip back to Ireland from Australia to TikTok.

She said: ‘I’m not even from Mayo but I’ve supported them for the last five years and have watched David and all his family back them every year — we had to come back just in case this was the year, and boy are we glad we did.’

An emotional Lee Keegan fought back tears as he fulfilled punditry duties on RTÉ for the game.

‘I’ve nothing to say,’ he told presenter Joanne Cantwell, ‘I’m f*cking delighted. I’m so proud. I just have no words; I’m sorry. It’s just unbelievable.

‘I thought I’d never get to see this come and to see what they did today, the way they finished it.

‘The sneering for years, the laughter at Mayo. Those guys are going to be legends for the rest of their lives, and I just couldn’t be happier as a Mayo man today.’
