The first picture of the man who died alongside his Irish wife in a Spanish jacuzzi tragedy has been revealed.

New Zealand native Patrick Tobin and his wife Thomasina Tobin, née McArdle, were found deceased in the jacuzzi at a residential property in the Cullera area of Spain.

The bodies of the couple were discovered by their teenage children, with the belief that the couple died in a tragic freak accident.

The couple were discovered with puncture wounds leading to the theory that one of them had fallen or slipped, and the other suffered the same fate when attempting to rescue.

Another possibility is that the hot tub may have malfunctioned, causing a suction effect which effectively trapped the pair.

Mrs Tobin hailed from a highly respected family from the Castleblayney area of County Monaghan. She had been living in London for two decades.

Her husband, Patrick, was an associate general manager in the London offices of HCLTech, the Irish Mirror reported.

The tech company employs more than 220,000 people across 60 countries with a specialisation in software, digital, engineering, cloud and AI products.

The publication reported that Mr Tobin had been in the company for 13 years, and was promoted to associate general manager in 2021.

The tragedy unfolded last week with members of Mrs Tobin’s family arriving in Spain to aid the deceased’s teenage sons.

Initial reports said the couple were both Irish and were aged 50 and 45, however, that has since been clarified by the Valencia Civil Guard.

The Civil Guard homicide unit have been taking charge of the investigation. The homicide unit came on board after the horror discovery of the Tobins.

Mrs Tobin was 51, and her husband was 48.

The New Zealand Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed they were aware of the death of one of their citizens.

The family had been in the area of Cap Blanc in Cullera, a town which boasts a population of around 25,000.
