A swimmer has helped another person safely from the water after they got into difficulty off the Tramore coast.

The Tramore Coast Guard Unit was tasked shortly after 2pm on Wednesday following reports of a swimmer in difficulty in the Guillamene area of Tramore.

A Coast Guard team responded to the scene, but on arrival it was confirmed that the person had made it safely out of the water with the assistance of another swimmer.

Tramore RNLI was also responding to the incident but was stood down during its launch after confirmation was received that the casualty was safely ashore.

Members of the Coast Guard assessed the person following the incident.

They did not require medical attention but were described as being shaken following the ordeal.

The Tramore Coast Guard Unit praised the swimmer who went to the person’s assistance.

Following the callout, the Coast Guard has reminded people entering the water to always tell someone where they are going and when they expect to return.

Anyone who encounters an emergency on or near the coast should contact the emergency services and ask for the Coast Guard.
