Transition Year students across Waterford are being encouraged to host coffee mornings in support of hospice care.

The initiative forms part of Ireland’s Biggest Coffee Morning for Hospice, with TY classes able to organise events up until November 12th.

Celebrity chef Catherine Fulvio has launched the campaign, which is calling on students to use their baking, barista and event-planning skills to raise money for hospice and homecare services.

Schools taking part can organise coffee mornings, bake sales, raffles or other fundraising events.

Ms. Fulvio said hospices provide important support to people with life-limiting conditions and their families.

She said: ‘We’re urging Transition Year classes in Waterford to get involved, host a coffee morning and raise crucial funds to support the often unseen work hospices and homecare services carry out every day.’

Classes which return their donations after taking part will also be entered into a draw to win €1,000, along with two places on Ms. Fulvio’s 13-week online cookery course.

Schools have until November 12th to host an event and submit their donations.

Fundraising materials, including posters, collection boxes and information packs, are available to participating schools.
