Waterford City and County Council has been shortlisted for a national property award for the South Quays Plaza project.
The council is a finalist in the Placemaking and Planning category of the KPMG Irish Independent Property Industry Excellence Awards 2026.
The South Quays Plaza has created a new public space along the River Suir, linking Waterford’s historic city centre with the wider North Quays regeneration area.

The Clock Tower forms the focal point of the plaza, with new seating, landscaped areas and improved access to the riverfront.
The project is also intended to play a role in future city connectivity, with the new sustainable transport bridge due to open in late 2027.
The bridge will connect the Waterford Greenway with the South East Greenway and strengthen links between both sides of the River Suir.
Mayor of Waterford City and County, Cllr. Liam Brazil, said the shortlisting recognises the plaza as ‘an outstanding example of placemaking and planning’.
He added that the project will benefit Waterford city for generations to come.
The awards ceremony will take place at the Clayton Hotel in Dublin on November 5th.
