A Ryanair flight departing from Ireland was among several flights that were grounded across Europe as a result of bomb threats.

Seven planes, including three from the UK, were affected by the threats over the last 24 hours, including two Ryanair flights.

One of the flights, from Dublin, was searched after it landed in Rome on Tuesday morning, after being escorted by the Italian Air Force until it landed.

A second Ryanair flight, originating from Lisbon, was also searched after it landed in Rome. Four other flights were also hit by bomb scares, one of which, a flight from London, needed to make an emergency landing.

Three other flights were grounded from Manchester, Copenhagen and Israel.

A flight on Polish airline LOT from London Heathrow engaged in an emergency landing at Warsaw-Modlin Airport, which was temporarily closed as security services verified the threat.

A second threat was reported on a Scandinavian SAS flight from Copenhagen in Denmark to Warsaw, which was forced to land at Chopin Airport. SAS said that the flight landed safely and passengers disembarked.

Catalan newspaper Diari ARA reported that a Ryanair flight from Manchester that landed in Murcia was also hit with a threat.

Warsaw-Chopin Airport, within the city limits, remained open on Tuesday, according to a spokesperson.

Warsaw-Modlin Airport, about 30km from Warsaw City Centre and primarily used by budget airlines, remained closed as the plane bound for Modlin landed.

A statement from the airport added that the plane was directed to a designated area, and would remain there until bomb disposal teams gave clearance.
