Emergency services responded to reports of a person in the River Suir in Waterford last night.

Shortly after 8:30 pm, Waterford City Fire Service successfully rescued the person from the water, while a member of the public who tried to help was also brought safely ashore.

Waterford City River Rescue, An Garda Síochána, Rescue 117 and the National Ambulance Service were also involved in the operation.

Emergency services have praised the member of the public for his courageous actions and thanked those who called 999 or 112.

The public is being reminded to immediately contact the Irish Coast Guard on 999 or 112 if they see anyone in difficulty on Ireland’s lakes, rivers or coast.
