Tributes have poured in for an 18-year-old girl from County Wicklow who tragically passed away this week after a road accident in Iceland.
Hannah Jane Large, 18, from Greystones, Co Wicklow, died on Monday, August 31. She was one of three young people killed after the car they were travelling in left the road on Krýsuvíkurvegur, south of Reykjavík, and crashed onto a lava cliff.
The other victims in the accident were Benjamín Guðmundsson, 21, and 16-year-old Arndís Halla.
A memorial service has been announced to take place at Colliers Funeral Home on Old Connaught Avenue in Bray, though no date for the service has been announced.
In a tribute on RIP.ie, Large’s family said: ‘She will be forever loved and always remembered as a smiling, shining star who lit up the lives of those who were privileged to know and love her. Cherished and adored daughter of Sam and Greg, loving and proud big sister of Samuel, an adored granddaughter and niece, she will be deeply missed by her extended family across the world.
‘Hannah was a devoted and kind friend and her friends were the centre of her world and she theirs, both here and in Iceland.’
The family have asked that those attending: ‘wear bright clothes to remind each other of Hannah’s sparkle.’
Tributes poured in for the teenager, with one mourner posting: ‘Although you were only in our lives for a short time, we will never forget you Hannah and will cherish the happy memories and times with you.’
Another said: ‘I will always remember her from our days at St. Laurence’s; even back then, her bubbly personality and bright smile could light up any room. She was such a joyful, shining presence, and that is exactly how she will always be remembered. Rip Hannah.’
Another mourner posted: ‘Deeply shocked and saddened to hear of Hannah’s passing. I send my condolences to the Large family and all of Hannah’s friends. I taught her in St David’s, and she was a wonderful student. Hannah brought a lot of joy and laughter to the classroom, and it was a pleasure to teach her. Rest in peace, Hannah.’
Lastly, one mourner posted: ‘Hannah was the type of person that can befriend anybody because of how bright she is. She was such a kind soul, and my thoughts are with her family. Rest in peace, Hannah.’
