Gardaí and emergency services are currently at the scene of a house fire in a residence in the Birchwood area of Waterford city, this morning October 13th.

An initial call was received by emergency services at approximately 5.13am advising of a fire in a residence.

Investigations are ongoing and Gardaí have advised they are limited in how much they can comment, based on this being an evolving incident.

Due to the sensitive nature of the incident, reporting is limited, however Gardaí are expected to confirm a number of fatalities resulting from the fire.

It is understood that at least one adult male and one child is among the reported fatalities.
