It’s been a glorious few weeks of weather, with some much-needed showers in recent days, but how is the long weekend faring out?

Met Éireann have pinpointed the best day of the August Bank Holiday as a mixture of sunshine and scattered showers are on the horizon.

The forecaster noted that Thursday would be bright and fresher than recent days, with sunny spells and scattered showers.

The scattered showers are expected to predominantly affect Connacht and Ulster, with temperatures in the northwest hitting 22 degrees.

It’s more of the same on Friday, with bright and sunny spells and the occasional scattered shower.

Showers could be sharper in Ulster, but will ease in the evening. Temperatures of up to 21 degrees remain forecast.

Temperatures will remain between 8 and 11 on Friday night with cloudier conditions overnight.

Met Éireann say Saturday will be mostly dry with just a few isolated showers. Heading into evening time, it will become cloudier with some light rain and drizzle.

They said: ‘Mostly dry on Saturday but turning more unsettled on Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday with outbreaks of rain.’

From then, things are predicted to take a slight turn with a cloudier day on Sunday and outbreaks of rain throughout the day. Those in the northern part of the country will enjoy drier conditions.

Bank Holiday Monday will continue with cloudy conditions, with the potential for more widespread rain.

Despite the wet conditions temperatures of up to 21 and 20 degrees are forecast for Sunday and Monday respectively.

Looking towards next week, the national forecaster noted that conditions will be ‘changeable’ with showers and rain at times.

There will be long dry interludes, while temperatures will continue in the high teens/low twenties.
