A man in his 50s was killed in a single-vehicle crash during the early hours of Sunday morning in Meath.

Gardaí confirmed that the incident occurred on Connaught Street in Athboy at around 2am.

The man was the driver and only occupant of the car, which ‘struck a premises’ and left him fatally injured.

Gardaí stated that the man’s body was removed from the scene and brought to a mortuary at Our Lady’s Hospital in Navan.

The road is currently closed for a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.

A Garda statement read: ‘The collision involved a car which struck a premises.

‘The male driver and sole occupant of the car, aged in his 50s was fatally injured. His body has since been removed from the scene to the mortuary at Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan where a post mortem examination will take place in due course…

‘Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to come forward.

‘Road users who were in the area of Connaught Street, Athboy, in the early hours of this morning Sunday 20th September 2026 between 1.45am and 2.15am and who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make it available to investigating Gardaí.
