A 33-year-old man has been charged with the murder of his mother in Galway earlier this year.

Dubravko Ostojic, of Claí Mór in Ballybrit, appeared before Galway District Court on Wednesday morning.

He is charged in connection with the death of his 65-year-old mother, Milena Ostojic, who died after sustaining serious injuries at her home in Claí Mór on April 24th.

According to RTÉ, Detective Garda Gerry Carroll gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution during a brief hearing before Judge Fiona Lydon.

The court heard that Mr. Ostojic made no reply when the charge was put to him at 10.10am.

His solicitor, John Martin, told the court that his client had a very good command of English and did not require an interpreter.

Judge Lydon said that, given the seriousness of the charge, any application for bail would have to be made to the High Court.

Garda Sergeant Claire Heneghan also told the court that the Director of Public Prosecutions had directed that a previous charge under Section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act be withdrawn.

Judge Lydon struck out that charge.

Mr. Ostojic was remanded in custody and is due to appear again before Galway District Court by video link on Monday, September 7th.
