A GoFundMe has been started for an Irish woman who was severely injured following a boating incident while in Thailand.
Abigail ‘Abbie’ Fleming, a beautician based in Tipperary, was on holiday with her boyfriend Andrew in Thailand, embarking on a boat trip on the day before they were due back.
However, Abbie was seriously injured while on the boat trip, breaking four of her vertebrae and needing to undergo emergency spinal fixation and spinal fusion surgery.

A GoFundMe has since been started by Abbie’s cousin, travel influencer Dev Skehan, who said that her cousin’s recovery is ongoing, but she unfortunately has a long road ahead.
‘[Abbie] is young, and out there with her boyfriend; we don’t know how long he can stay with her, and we don’t want her to be on her own,’ Dev said in the video.
‘But she can’t travel, because she’s had such a severe injury, and huge surgery, and the recovery is going to take quite long before she can even travel home.’

The GoFundMe reads that the distance from when the accident took place means that the couple and their families are facing ‘many unexpected challenges, both physically and financially.’
Taking to her beauty page, Abigails_Beauty_Studio, Abbie wrote that the studio would be closed until further notice due to the horrific incident.
‘I was due back home in Ireland today after our trip away and back to work Tuesday,’ she wrote at the time. ‘Unfortunately, I had a bad accident yesterday morning while on a boat trip in Thailand and I broke four vertebrae in my back. I have now had emergency surgery and will unfortunately have to remain in Thailand in hospital for the foreseeable future while I recover.’
‘At the moment, nobody can give me a timeline on when I will be able to return home,’ she continued. ‘I really appreciate everyone’s patience, understanding and kind messages during this awful time.’
