The death of the European champion comes just one month after she married her long-time partner, Thomas Moran, with the couple celebrating alongside family and friends at Darver Castle.

Among those paying tribute following news of Ciara’s death was her wedding photographer John Gillooley who detailed the ‘incredible odds’ she faced.

Taking to social media on Sunday, the Dublin man shared a picture from the wedding as he expressed his ‘utter devastation’ at the news.

‘It’s so hard to believe that this incredible woman, pictured here just one week ago at her amazing & joyful wedding, is no longer with us,’ he wrote.

‘I only got to know Ciara for such a short time but felt such a connection. I’m sure most of the photos shared today will be of her unbelievable sporting achievements and rightfully so. But I just knew her as a bride who was going to celebrate her wedding to the man she loved more than anyone and to throw a big party for her best friends and family and nothing was going to stop her.’

Mr Gillooley said Ciara ‘pulled every ounce of energy she could summon’ to ensure the best day was had.

‘Here she is pictured near the end of the night, fist raised in triumph, surrounded by the beautiful energy and love of her people,’ he continued.

When saying goodnight on the evening, John shared how Ciara had spoken of meeting up for a coffee next time she was in the capital.

‘How I wish that could have been,’ he said.

Ciara is survived by her husband Thomas, parents Christopher and Catherine, siblings Máire, Brendan and Nuala, as well as godchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.
