The Department of Justice has decided not to renew the contract for an international protection accommodation centre at Atlantic House in Tramore.
The facility at Railway Square is currently home to 76 residents, who were informed of the decision on October 28th.
Transfer letters are due to be issued today, November 4th, with residents who wish to remain in State-funded accommodation expected to be relocated to other centres by November 25th.
The update was outlined in an email circulated to members of Waterford City and County Council, including councillors representing Tramore, as well as Waterford’s four TDs.
The Department has confirmed there are no children living at the centre.
It says it is working with residents and centre management to support the relocation process, while medical needs will be taken into consideration when allocating new accommodation.
However, it has acknowledged that suitable accommodation in the same area may not be available.
The Department has thanked Waterford City and County Council, local representatives and other stakeholders for their support during the centre’s operation.
