A first-of-its-kind floating sauna is set to open on Dún Laoghaire harbour this weekend.
It’s the newest service available from Helios, which is paving the way for the industry in Ireland, with four locations already under its belt: two in Bray, one in Dundrum, and one in Wexford.
The latest infrastructure is a timber-clad sauna, mounted on a floating pontoon. It includes a deck area and a cold-water plunge pool overlooking Dublin Bay, which would be just beautiful on a sunny day.

The wood-fired sauna comfortably seats 12 people, and the plunge pool is full of seawater. Meanwhile, the showers are fresh water to help make you feel clean and put a pep in your step to carry on with the day.
There are changing facilities on site, and dry robes should the need arise (because let’s face it, it probably will with the ever-changing Irish weather).
And while that sounds like a regular sauna experience, the kicker is that it makes you feel totally at one with nature because you’re afloat on the sea.

By all accounts, ‘you can even feel the movement of the water while relaxing inside’. Sounds soothing!
Helios’ Dún Laoghaire location opens to the public at 10am on Saturday, May 30, just in time for the long summer ahead. It’ll be open 8am through 10pm every day for the foreseeable.
A 45-minute trip to the sauna will cost you €24.95, which we think is a bargain considering how relaxed you’ll feel afterwards.

If you’re planning a trip, Helios reminds you to bring swimwear, a towel, flip-flops or sandals, and a water bottle to keep yourself hydrated (no glass containers).
Ireland’s sauna industry has really taken off in recent times, but this innovative space is somewhere we can’t wait to try out.
