The family of Glynn Keane has left touching tributes for the young man after he was tragically pronounced dead in Cork University Hospital on Saturday.

The 21-year-old passed away exactly one month after sustaining critical injuries in a horrific assault in Kerry during the Listowel Races on September 24.

It is understood that he was initially taken to University Hospital Kerry before being later transferred to Cork University Hospital, where his family remained by his bedside until his tragic passing.

A death notice for the young man reads: ‘Glynn will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his heartbroken family, his parents Trish and Anthony, sister Janai, grandparents Paudie and Nora Keane and Michael Horgan, uncles Michael and John Horgan, Trevor, Gary and D.J Keane, aunts Debbie and Samantha Keane, granduncles, grandaunts, cousins, extended family, neighbours and friends.’

In tributes left underneath the notice, Glynn was remembered as a ‘lovely young man’ who was ‘taken way too early’.

One mourner wrote: ‘Glynn was such a happy lad and was taken far too soon! May his gentle soul rest in peace and may he watch over you and guide you through this very difficult time.’

‘Heartbroken to hear of your passing, Glynn. Thank you for the memories and the laughs. You’ll be sadly missed and never forgotten. Rest easy, my friend,’ another person added.

A third said: ‘We will always remember Glynn as the happy, mischievous, full of fun character that was Glynn. May he find peace and give ye all the strength going forward.’

Glynn will be reposed at Lyons Funeral Home in Listowel on Thursday evening before his funeral arrives at St Mary’s Church on Friday.

The funeral service will take place at 10:30am and will be followed by a burial in St John Paul II Cemetery.

Gardaí launched an investigation into Glynn’s assault last month, with three men, one in his 30s and two in their 20s, arrested in connection with the incident but later released without charge.

Last weekend, investigators confirmed that the probe remains ‘ongoing’ and urged anyone who may have information to come forward.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said: ‘Gardaí continue to appeal for witnesses to the incident, particularly those that were in the vicinity of The Square, Listowel between 8:15pm and 9:15pm on Thursday September 24th, 2026.

‘‘Gardai are especially keen to speak with anyone who may have dash cam or phone camera footage to contact them at Listowel Garda station on 068 50820, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.’
