The Gum Litter Taskforce brought its 2026 Summer Roadshow to Waterford today, encouraging people to help keep the city clean by disposing of chewing gum responsibly.

The campaign, which visited John Roberts Square in partnership with Waterford City and County Council, is touring towns and cities across Ireland this summer with its ‘Bin It!’ message, reminding people to place chewing gum in a bin rather than on the ground.

Mayor of Waterford City and County, Cllr. Liam Brazil welcomed the initiative, saying keeping the city’s streets, parks and public spaces clean is a collective effort.

New research from the Gum Litter Taskforce found that more than four in five young people (82%) now believe littering is socially unacceptable. However, only 61% consider chewing gum to be litter, highlighting the need for continued awareness campaigns.

The Summer Roadshow will continue its nationwide tour over the coming weeks, while the Bin It! educational programme is set to return to schools this October.
