Concern has been raised over anti-social behaviour in Dungarvan town centre after a firework was set off in Grattan Square.

A video posted on social media appears to show a group of youths setting off a firework in the centre of the town.

The incident has prompted a number of comments from local residents, with one person saying the sound was like a “bomb” going off.

Others described the incident as “shocking” and a “disgrace”.

The video has also prompted wider discussion about anti-social behaviour in the town and concerns over the impact such incidents can have on people living, working and visiting the area.

It comes amid wider concerns about noise and safety in the town.

Cllr Kate O’Mahoney says residents in Monksfield and surrounding areas have contacted her about late-night revving, racing and speeding involving modified cars at a petrol station on the Coolagh Road.

She says she and Sinn Féin TD Conor McGuinness sought a meeting with the management of the premises to raise the concerns directly.

According to Cllr O’Mahoney, management has since met with builders to examine possible solutions, including closing off the car park at night while continuing to allow customers access to the petrol pumps.

She says a number of options are now being considered, with management expected to come back with a proposed solution.

Cllr O’Mahoney says the aim is to find a practical measure that would reduce late-night disruption for local residents while allowing the premises to continue operating.

It comes as similar concerns have been raised elsewhere in Waterford in recent days.
