Gardaí are encouraging Leaving Cert students to plan ahead if they’re celebrating their results this Friday.

Thousands of students nationwide will be able to access their final grades through the State Examinations Commission portal from 10am.

Those heading out are being advised to plan how they’ll get home, let someone know where they’re going and avoid walking home alone in dark areas.

Gardaí say people should not attempt to reason with anyone who is drunk or behaving aggressively, and should instead contact 999 or 112 if an incident occurs.

Students are also being encouraged to make sure their ICE (In Case of Emergency) contact is up to date on their phone.

Two-factor authentication is also recommended for messaging and email apps to help protect personal accounts if a phone is lost or stolen.

The results will be followed by the first round of CAO offers less than a week later.
