The funeral of Oscar-winning actress Brenda Fricker has been confirmed for this week.

The Dublin native won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the 1990 film, My Left Foot.

She passed away last month at Our Lady’s Hospice, Harold’s Cross.

Brenda’s career spanned some 60 years with iconic roles including her Oscar-worthy performance in My Left Foot; the ‘pigeon lady’ in Home Alone 2; and Bernie Guerin in the 2003 flick, Veronica Guerin.

The funeral service for the late actor takes place on Thursday, August 4 at St Catherine’s Church, Meath Street, and will be followed by a private burial.

Brenda’s death notice confirms she is predeceased by her parents Bina and Desmond, and sister Grainne.

‘Deeply regretted and lovingly remembered by her niece Billie, nephew Chimo, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, her best friend Liz, neighbours and a wide circle of friends around the world and in Ireland,’ it added.

The late Brenda’s death comes not long after she was awarded the Freedom of Dublin by Dublin Lord Mayor Ray McAdam.

The Lord Mayor described Brenda as ‘one of Dublin’s most distinguished cultural figures,’ adding it was a source of huge pride for the city to recognise her with the Freedom of Dublin.

‘This honour is not simply about international acclaim,’ Lord Mayor McAdam said.

‘It is about contribution and the pride Brenda has brought to Dublin and to Ireland.’

The actress was married to Barry Davis for 15 years. The couple divorced in 1988.

The couple were pregnant six times, each of which ended in a heartbreaking miscarriage.
