Funeral details have been announced for Irish Olympic champion Ciara Mageean, following her untimely passing on Sunday, 1st November, at the age of 34.
The middle-distance runner died peacefully at the Marie Curie Hospice surrounded by her family, just over a year after being diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer.
Her family confirmed that Ciara’s remains will repose at her parents’ home on the Ballyphilip Road in Portaferry on Monday, 2nd November.

Callers are welcome to pay their respects between 10:00am and 1:00pm, and again from 3:00pm until 9:00pm.
The house will remain strictly private on the day of the funeral.
The funeral procession will leave her parents’ home at 1:45pm on Tuesday, 3rd November, travelling to St Patrick’s Church, Ballyphilip, for 2:00pm Requiem Mass. She will be laid to rest immediately afterward in the adjoining cemetery.

Her family have requested family flowers only, with donations in lieu, if desired, to Bowel Cancer Ireland and the Marie Curie Hospice.
The news comes just one week after the European 1500m champion married her long-time partner, Thomas Moran, celebrating their wedding surrounded by family and close friends at Darver Castle.

Tributes have continued to pour in from across Ireland and the global sporting community for the two-time Olympian, who brought home European gold in Rome 2024 and previously represented Ireland at the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Games.
Ciara is survived by her beloved husband Thomas, her parents Christopher and Catherine, her siblings Máire, Brendan, and Nuala, as well as her godchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
