The FSAI (Food Safety Authority of Ireland) has recalled a number of products amid potential Salmonella presence this weekend.

Salmonella infection occurs when a person eats contaminated food, drinks contaminated water or touches animals, their faeces, or where they live.

Symptoms of the infection include diarrhoea, fever, headache and abdominal cramps.

The FSAI notes that Salmonella symptoms typically develop between 12 and 36 hours after infection, but can range between 6 and 72 hours.

The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days, and usually doesn’t require hospital treatment.

If diarrhoea cases are severe enough, they can require hospital admission.

Elderly people; infants and those with impaired immune systems are most likely to have the worst cases of the infection.
