Fire Services have brought a fire in thick undergrowth in the Ballinakill area in Waterford City under control following a major emergency response this evening.

A total of six fire service units attended the scene, with four appliances deployed to one section of the blaze and a further two tackling another area.

Dozens of firefighters were involved in bringing the fire under control. While the flames have now been extinguished, crews remain at the scene monitoring the scene.

Firefighters are expected to remain at the location until at least nightfall as they continue to monitor the area and ensure the fire has been fully contained.

The cause of the fire has not yet been established, and there have been no reports of any injuries.
