Ferrybank is set to see the return of its SPAR convenience store after confirmation that the retail unit is being leased to a new local retailer.

Triode Newhill Management Services Limited has confirmed that the Ferrybank retail unit is in the process of being leased to a new operator, who will trade as a newly refurbished SPAR convenience store.

In a statement, David Bagnall, Chief Operating Officer of Triode Newhill Management Services Limited, said:

“Subject to contract we are in the process of leasing out the Ferrybank retail unit to a new local retailer to trade a newly refurbished SPAR convenience store.

“Please note that contracts have been issued and the legal process is underway.”

The announcement comes following the closure of the previous SPAR store last year, which was seen by many local residents as a significant loss for the village.

News of the planned reopening was first shared with the Ferrybank community through the Ferrybank Focus Facebook group, with administrator Steve Thwaites originally submitting an update on the development, highlighting it as another positive update for the area.

Local residents have since welcomed the news, with many expressing their support for the return of a convenience store to what locals refer to as the “village”.

At this stage, details of the new retailer, the timeline for the refurbishment works, and the official reopening date have not been announced.

The reopening remains subject to the completion of the legal process.

Seperately a few doors down, a new beauty business will open on Friday August 14th at the former Paddy Power shop.

The additions are being welcomed, with two units now being filled along fountain street.
