
There were eight arrests in Waterford in relation to suspected driving under the influence during An Garda Siochana’s June Bank Holiday Weekend Roads Policing Operation.
Six were related to drug driving and two related to drunk driving.
Speaking to WLR, Inspector Paul Donohoe described it as “quite a high number”, with the majority in the Waterford City area.
A total of 20 vehicles were seized under Section 41 of the Road Traffic Act.
Five drivers were prosecuted for dangerous driving, and two were prosecuted for having no insurance.
A total of 56 mandatory checkpoints were conducted over the weekend. There was one non-serious road traffic collision.
Meanwhile, there was one serious injury collision in Dungarvan.
