Repeated water outages in Dungarvan have been raised directly with the Taoiseach in the Dáil.

The issue was raised by Waterford Sinn Féin TD Conor McGuinness following a number of interruptions to supply affecting households and businesses across the town and surrounding areas.

Uisce Éireann issued its first notice on the 29th of October, with further disruption continuing the following day as crews worked to repair a significant burst at Springmount Roundabout.

Customers were warned they could experience outages, low pressure or reduced pressure while repairs were ongoing, while alternative water supplies were made available at Eurofins/Dungarvan GAA Club.

A second burst at the Old Glass Factory was also repaired.

Deputy McGuinness told the Dáil that serious questions remained around the condition of the network and what investment would be needed to prevent similar disruption in future.

He said the outages could not be treated as an isolated operational issue and that households and businesses in Dungarvan deserved answers.

Responding, the Taoiseach pointed to the reorganisation of Uisce Éireann and its transfer away from local authorities, saying that process had been a factor in recent years.

He said he hoped the completion of that reorganisation would lead to continued improvements and enhancements to the water network.

Uisce Éireann has previously apologised for the disruption caused by the outages and thanked customers for their patience while repair works were carried out.
