A Dublin GAA club has paid a touching tribute to an ‘exceptional’ young athlete who sadly passed away during the week.

Harry Strumble, from Rathcoole in the southwest of the county, died peacefully in his home on Wednesday, September 9, following a battle with illness.

Harry was a passionate Gaelic footballer and hurler who played for Commercials Hurling and Camogie Club in Rathcoole, where he was very popular.

The talented player has been remembered as ‘a wonderful young man’ who ‘will never be forgotten’, with his club paying him a moving tribute online.

They wrote: ‘We are all heartbroken and deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our dear club member and friend, Harry Strumble, who passed away last night, surrounded by his loving family following an illness bravely borne.

‘We would like to extend our deepest sympathy, love and support to Dave, Deborah, Sophie and Davina, and to all of Harry’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time. Our thoughts are also with Harry’s many friends, teammates and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

‘Harry played with the club from a very young age and was a big part of Commercials Hurling and Camogie Club. He was not only a great player and teammate, but a wonderful friend to so many. He had an amazing smile that lit up a room and was a truly genuine and exceptional young man who touched the lives of so many people.

‘His loss is deeply felt by everyone in the club. Harry will forever hold a special place in our hearts and will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all of us. There are no words to express how heartbroken we are. Rest in peace, Harry. You will never be forgotten.’

Harry also played Gaelic football for St Mary’s GAA in Saggart, who said that he ‘will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him’.

The club stated: ‘Harry was much loved in our Club and our Parish. While hurling was his passion, he played juvenile football in our Club from Academy and continued to Minor, U21s and Junior.

‘Harry was a very skilful footballer but beyond the pitch he was quite simply a wonderful young man. Harry’s kindness and respect towards everyone shone through, he never passed you without saying hello and always with that gorgeous smile.’

Harry’s funeral was held at the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Saggart on Saturday morning and he was laid to rest in Saggart Cemetery.
