Construction has been approved for new classroom projects at two Waterford schools.

Scoil Naomh Mhuire in Ballygunner is set to receive two new mainstream classrooms along with eight special education tuition rooms.

Fenor National School has also been approved for two new special education classrooms.

The projects have been approved under the Additional Accommodation Scheme and can now move to the construction phase.

The additional accommodation at Ballygunner is expected to help meet growing demand at the school, while both projects will provide new dedicated spaces for students receiving special education support.

Waterford TD and Minister of State John Cummins welcomed the announcement, saying the projects will make a significant difference to both schools and their wider communities.

He also acknowledged the work of school principals, staff and boards of management involved in progressing the projects.

Construction is expected to begin following the latest approval.
