Smokers and vapers are set to face higher costs following tax increases announced as part of the Budget.

Excise duty on a packet of 20 cigarettes is increasing by €1, with a pro-rata increase also being applied to other tobacco products.

It means the price of cigarettes will rise again as the Government continues to use taxation as part of efforts to reduce smoking rates.

Vapers will also be hit by an increase, with the tax on e-liquid products rising by 20 cent per millilitre.

The increase means a standard 10ml bottle of e-liquid will be subject to an additional €2 in tax.

The measures form part of a wider series of tax changes announced in the Budget, which also include changes affecting motorists, renters, businesses and property owners.
