Tramore turned pink this morning as hundreds of people took to the Promenade for a Swim in Pink event in aid of breast cancer.

Participants turned out in a wide range of colourful costumes for the 11am swim, with plenty of fun and laughter helping to raise awareness for an important cause.

Organisers thanked Johnny O’Grady and the volunteers who helped get the event set up, with people of all ages coming together to take part and show their support.

The swim formed part of a wider day of events on the Promenade, with Waterford City and County Council teaming up with the Vitamin Sea Festival to bring Social Streets to Tramore, as part of European Car Free Day, with an event also taking place in the Mall in the city.

The event included children’s activities, market stalls, food and wellness events, bringing hundreds more people into the town throughout the day.

The atmosphere on the Promenade was described as “buzzing”, with local Deirdre Roche enjoying the crowds, stalls and activities with her friends, pictured below:

“Oh, it’s buzzing here, it’s great! And wasn’t it a great summer? It’s brilliant. Fantastic, says Deirdre.

“And the weather makes it, yeah now. That made a whole difference, you know, the coffee shops down here. Well, come here, look, isn’t this just, like all the stalls here, it’s great now.

“I mean, Tramore really is a year-round place now, isn’t it? Yeah, it’s fantastic, and even the little play area they have up there for the kids is brilliant.

“You know, it’s great to see it.”

“And what do you love about Waterford?” asked WLR reporter Kyle Butler.

“Well, it’s south-east first. It has everything, sea, mountains, everything. The Greenway. Our history. We take up the whole show. We love it. We just love it.”
