Met Éireann have warned the country to brace themselves this weekend as the warm weather looks set to come crashing down.

While Autumn is well and truly here calendar-wise, most of the country has been enjoying warm weather for the most part; even only having to tolerate warm rain whenever it did rain.

However, it appears that we might need to dust off the raincoats this weekend, as Met Éireann has warned that we’re in for a washout this weekend.

While we’re looking at brighter spells in the coming days, including up to Friday, we’re set to have a far more unsettled weekend, as more persistent rain and wind batters most of the country.

Despite this, we’ll still end up experiencing somewhat high temperatures — when the mercury is expected to reach the mid to high teens, bringing with it more warm rain than anything.

Looking to the weather on Wednesday, Met Éireann says that any lingering rain and cloud in the east and south will continue to clear early in the morning. This will lead to a mostly dry and bright day, with just the odd shower in the west and north. Highest temperatures of 14C to 19C.

Wednesday night will start dry with clear spells, before cloud builds from the west overnight, bringing patches of rain and drizzle developing in the west and northwest by morning. Lowest temperature of 7C to 12C.

Thursday will be a breezier day, with moderate to fresh southerly winds developing. Mostly dry to start off, sunny in the east, but it will be cloudier elsewhere with patchy rain and drizzle. The cloud will thicken across the day, with more persistent rain spreading over the western half of the country. Highest temperatures of 15C to 19C.

It will be cloudy on Thursday night, as rain and drizzle spread eastwards before clearing from most areas overnight. Patches of light rain and drizzle will linger in the south and east. Lowest temperatures from 9C to 13C.

Any lingering drizzle in the east and south will clear early on Friday, to leave a brighter day with a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers. Highest temperatures of 14C to 17C.

This brings us to what’s expected to be a washout this weekend; while Saturday will start dry and bright, more persistent rain is set to develop in the west and north, while more frequent showers develop in the north. It will be warm, however, as highest temperatures are expected to be around 15C to 19C.

Sunday will see widespread rain develop, according to Met Éireann’s forecast, and possibly turning heavy in some places. Highest temperatures of 13C to 17C.

Low pressure will remain dominant over the next week, remaining unsettled, wet and blustery at times. Daytime temperatures are expected to remain around the late teens.
