Met Éireann has forecast cooler temperatures over the coming week as ‘unsettled weather’ hits the country towards the end of September.

However, the week will get off to a warm start, with a ‘humid’ and ‘mostly dry’ Monday in store across Ireland.

While there is a small amount of mist and drizzle in some areas in the morning, Monday afternoon will see bright and sunny intervals with temperatures rising to 22C or 23C.

Monday night will then be ‘mild, humid and mainly dry with some clear spells and patches of mist or fog’.

Met Éireann continued: ‘Tuesday will be mainly dry over Leinster and Munster with bright or sunny spells and perhaps one or two showers. Rain and drizzle in the northwest during the morning will spread slowly across Ulster and Connacht through the afternoon and evening. Highest temperatures of 16C to 20C for most, but between 14C and 16C in the northwest.

‘On Tuesday night, rain in Ulster, Connacht and west Munster will gradually move southeastwards to almost all areas overnight. Lowest temperatures of 11C to 14C with light to moderate south to southwest breezes.

‘Through Wednesday morning, rain will gradually clear to the southeast. Drier, brighter weather will follow from the west with sunny spells developing. Cooler with highest temperatures of 14C to 17C and light to moderate northwesterly winds.’

Wednesday night looks set to be the coldest night of the week, with the national forecaster predicting that temperatures may drop to between 6C and 9C.

Thursday will similarly be a mix of sunny spells and bouts of rain across the country, with temperatures ranging from 15C to 19C.

Met Éireann added: ‘On Thursday night, rain will continue for a time and will clear to the east overnight. Lowest temperatures of 10C to 13C with winds becoming southwesterly and easing as rain clears.

‘Friday will be mainly dry with bright or sunny spells and perhaps a few showers. Highest temperatures of 15C to 18C with moderate to fresh west to southwest winds.’

The forecaster also said that the weekend looks set to be ‘unsettled’, with rain and showers coming down through slightly warmer temperatures.
