Happy October! There’s a chill in the air as we officially descend into spooky season, which means cosy watches and cuppas all round.

There are new TV shows and movies that we’re really excited for this month, as well as some new instalments of our favourite series.

We’re particularly excited for Tom Cruise’s new film Digger, an adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s novel Verity, and a third season of rom-com series Nobody Wants This. Take a look at the roster:

East of Eden

Release date: October 1

October "A woman and man in period clothing walk beside a horse-drawn wagon loaded with luggage and crates, set in a rustic outdoor location, evoking a historical setting."

Florence Pugh stars in East of Eden, a seven-episode adaptation of John Steinbeck’s 1952 novel.

This retelling focuses on the unforgettable antihero Cathy Ames, with the story exploring her motivations and moral darkness in far greater detail than previous screen versions.

The cast also includes Christopher Abbott, Mike Faist as Charles Trask, Tracy Letts, Martha Plimpton, Hoon Lee, Joseph Zada and Joe Anders, with an Irish face in Ciarán Hinds.

East of Eden will stream on Netflix. Watch the trailer here.

The line-up for The Celebrity Traitors S2 is incredibly star-studded, and we’re beyond excited to watch it.

Irish funny woman Joanne McNally is joined by comedians Ramesh Ranganathan, Rob Beckett, and Miranda Hart, as well as singer James Blunt, and actors Richard E. Grant, Bella Ramsey, and Ross Kemp.

This game of deception, scheming, and betrayal will have us entertained for weeks.

The Celebrity Traitors S2 will stream on BBC One. Watch the trailer here.

Verity

Verity stars Anne Hathaway as Verity Crawford and Dakota Johnson as Lowen Ashleigh, and the trailer pulls viewers straight into Colleen Hoover’s world of obsession, manipulation, and blurred truths.

Anne brings a chilling stillness to Verity. Dakota plays Lowen with quiet panic, while Josh Hartnett appears as Jeremy Crawford, caught between loyalty, grief, and something darker. It’s a sharp, prestige cast for a story built on secrets — and we hope it’s a gripping watch.

Verity will be released in Irish cinemas. Watch the trailer here.

Digger

Release date: October 2

Tom Cruise looks unrecognisable in his return to the big screen in Digger.

The Mission: Impossible star plays Digger Rockwell, the most powerful man in the world, who is tasked with saving humanity from a disaster he caused in his upcoming project.

In the film, Tom adopts a Southern-cowboy billionaire persona, complete with boots, a hat, and a thick accent. Anything that Tom Cruise signs his name to, count us in!

Digger will be released in Irish cinemas. Watch the trailer here.

The Diplomat S4 picks up right after the S3 finale, when Kate discovers yet another covert betrayal—this time involving her own husband, Hal, now the Vice President.

His secret role in President Grace Penn’s decision to retrieve a deadly Russian nuclear weapon from UK waters has pushed the US and UK into dangerous territory.

Show creator Debora Cahn has already warned viewers: ‘You should be worried.’ Intrigue!

The Diplomat S4 will stream on Netflix. Watch the trailer here.

Nobody Wants This S3

Release date: October 22

"A man and woman embrace and look into each other's eyes in a lush garden setting with palm trees, manicured bushes, and an elegant patio with chairs and columns in the background."

Nobody Wants This S3 will see Joanne and Noah move in together and enjoy all the ‘firsts’ that come with a stable, fulfilling relationship.

‘After the ups and downs of Noah and Joanne in S2, it was really important to us to be like, “Let’s let them have their moment now of settling in and having fun,”‘ said co-showrunner and executive producer Bruce Eric Kaplan.

His fellow showrunner and EP Jenni Konner says, ‘We didn’t have to do any more “Will they, won’t they?” We know they are going to, and it was sort of, “How are they going to?”‘

Nobody Wants This S3 will stream on Netflix. Watch the trailer here.

Wicker

Release date: October 30

Wicker follows a fisherwoman (Olivia Colman) living on the outskirts of a small seaside village. She’s unmarried, smelly, and constantly ridiculed by her neighbours.

‘Frustrated with her social isolation, she enlists the local basketmaker to craft a husband entirely out of wicker. To her surprise, the wicker creation proves extraordinary, with a presence and charm that disrupt the village’s quiet life,’ its synopsis reads.

‘As the wicker husband becomes a focal point of attention, his existence ignites jealousy, rivalry, and upheaval among the villagers, challenging their conservative norms and provoking both outrage and fascination.’

It sounds equal parts bizarre and entertaining.

Wicker will be released in Irish cinemas. Watch the trailer here.
